Periodontal / Gum Disease

Gum disease also known as periodontal disease is an infection of the gums surrounding your teeth. This virtually pain free condition is one of the top reasons for tooth loss in adults because it is pain free many patients do not even now they have the disease.

During regular check ups the Radiant Expressions Dental experienced dental team will check for signs of periodontal disease by measuring the space between your teeth and gums.

Gum disease is caused by a build up of plaque (a sticky form of bacteria that forms on the teeth). If the plaque is not removed by flossing, brushing and regular check ups, it will continue to build up and create toxins that can damage the gums. Periodontal disease forms just below the gum lie and creates small pockets that separate the gums from the teeth. It has two stages; Gingivitis and Periodontis.

Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease. At this stage, the disease is treatable and can usually be eliminated by daily brushing and flossing. If Gingivitis is untreated it will advance into Periodontis. Gums infected with periodontis can cause teeth to become loose, fall out, or to be removed by the dentist.

Some symptoms may include gums that bleed easily, red and swollen gums that have pulled away from the teeth, persistent bad breath or bad taste, permanent teeth that are loose or separating and more.

Dr. Hassan Al Maghazchi will inform you about preventative measures and treatments if necessary.
